
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks, born July 9, 1956 is an American actor. He is known for his comedy and dramatic roles and is considered to be an American famous cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother, initially referred to "Fraga" was part of an ethnically Portuguese family. His father, however, was predominantly English. Tom grew up in an extended family that he describes as "fractured". He did not have any performing experience at the time of his college. This is the reason that helped him get started in his career. He went to the downtown area, was a part of a community theatre production, and was invited by the director of the show to visit Cleveland where his acting career began.
