Sharon Yvonne Stone, born 10 March 1958 in Meadville (Pennsylvania) was the daughter of Dorothy Lawson, a former worker at a factory, and Joseph William Stone, a tool maker and die maker. Michael, Kelly and Patrick are her siblings. Stone was considered to be academically gifted when she started two grades when she was five. Saegertown School situated in Saegertown Pennsylvania was her high school. She graduated in 1975. A winner of Miss Crawford County, she also participated in her first Miss Pennsylvania Beauty Pageant. Stone was moved to New Jersey in 1977 with her aunt, to pursue a career as models. In just a few months, she was signed with Ford Modeling Agency. The next step was Europe which she was to spend a year residing in Milan, Paris and other cities. Stone became dissatisfied with the model market in Europe but decided to pursue acting instead. Woody Allen's film, "Stardust Memories", got mixed praise in her 20s.
